I want to take Pilates classes but am new to Pilates, where do I start?

If you are pain, injury and condition free then are able to start the class of your choice once you have taken a one to one introduction.

I have done Pilates before and want to start classes; do I have to do an introduction?

No, if you have done Pilates before and are comfortable in the class type you are welcome to book straight into classes as long as you are pain, injury and condition free. Please note if you want to take Reformer classes you must be confident using the Reformer, if this is not the case, we ask you take an introduction.

What is the difference between a Mat / Reformer introduction 1:1 and a regular 1:1?

Introductions are designed to teach you the basic exercises needed for that class to ensure you feel safe and comfortable within the class.

One to one sessions are designed specific around you, your instructor will give you the most helpful and appropriate exercises so that you can work towards your own individual goals. One to one sessions use our comprehensive range of Pilates equipment.

I have been recommended /referred to do Pilates by my Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Osteopath, Doctor, where do I start?

We ask you to come in and have an initial one to one session so that we discuss your health history and reasons for wanting to take Pilates to ensure that you start taking Pilates in the most appropriate way. If you are rehabilitating, we are happy to work alongside your healthcare professionals.

I am currently injured / in pain, where do I start?

We want for you to be in a safe and appropriate environment taking Pilates, therefore, request you start with a single one to one session then your instructor can advise the best way in which to continue.

What should I wear?

Simply wear something that allows you to move freely and that feel comfortable in. Layers are always a good idea so that you feel warm to start and can take layers off when needed. Shoes are not required as Pilates is done in socks or bare feet.

How many times a week should I come?

We recommend you take classes and sessions at least once week, ideally the same day and time each week. Why? This is because to create a new habit and routine you need to make it as easy and simple as possible, the same session each week allows you to start embedding in a new habit and set yourself up for success.

Does the studio have parking?

We are based on King Street and King Street has free parking and so do the surrounding streets. There is also a free car park at the very bottom of Queen Street. We are situated next to The Bigham Hall which hosts events and clubs, therefore, parking can sometimes be busy. We advise you give yourself enough time to find parking in surrounding streets just in case King Street is full.
